Viega Brings the First Press IPS Globe Valve to the Market

October 30, 2025 | Viega

In commercial and industrial piping systems, precise flow control is critical. Until now, that precision often came with trade-offs: slower installations, increased labor costs or complex permitting for hot work connections. Viega’s new MegaPress® and MegaPress 316 Globe Valves change that.

As the first press-connect globe valve for Iron Pipe Size (IPS) systems, it combines the control and reliability of a traditional globe valve with the time-saving advantages of MegaPress®. The result is a valve designed to deliver precise throttling, unmatched corrosion resistance and faster, safer installation.

“It’s the first globe valve of its type with iron pipe size press ends in the market,” said Hans Ohren, Product Co-Manager for Valves. “We created it to fill a gap for contractors who wanted faster, safer, no-hot-work connections while maintaining precise flow control.”

Filling a Critical Valves Gap

Before the Viega IPS Globe Valve, installers working with iron pipe were limited to traditional joining methods. Threaded, soldered or welded systems added time and risk, particularly in high heat or restricted environments where hot work permits are required.

Recognizing the need for a safer and more efficient alternative, Viega engineers developed the IPS Globe Valve. The valve is available in ½ in. to 2 in. sizes and provides throttling capabilities for fluids in systems, where precision and reliability matter most.

“Viega took the initiative to develop this product for that need,” Ohren explained. “We saw an opportunity to bring that same efficiency and safety to iron pipe systems.”

Valves Built for Performance and Durability

Each valve is constructed from 316 stainless steel, including the body, stem, seat and disc, for corrosion resistance in demanding environments.

Two sealing element options make it adaptable to different system requirements:

  • EPDM (Model 5185.1): ideal for potable water systems, NSF-61 and NSF-372 certified, with temperature ratings from 0°F to 250°F.
  • FKM (Model 5985.1): designed for industrial or high-temperature fluid throttling, rated from 14°F to 284°F, and able to withstand spikes up to 356°F for 24 hours.

Both models feature an adjustable PTFE stem seal packing for reliable sealing and easy field adjustment. Press ends eliminate threading or welding, simplifying installation and reducing potential leak points.

Precise Flow Control Where It Counts

Unlike quarter-turn valves, globe valves are designed for precise modulation rather than on-off flow. That makes the IPS Globe Valve especially effective in:

  • Hydronic heating and chilled-water systems
  • Process water loops in manufacturing
  • Industrial fluid systems requiring throttling or balancing
  • Low-pressure steam applications

In these systems, control of flow translates into consistent temperatures, energy efficiency and smoother system performance. The IPS Globe Valve brings that precision while allowing installers to maintain the speed and safety benefits of press technology.

Less Downtime & Faster Installs with Viega Valves

With Viega MegaPress, installation times are up to 90 percent faster than traditional welded or soldered methods. Contractors eliminate the need for welding equipment, consumables and permits, and can complete work safely in environments where open flame isn’t an option.

“In one facility, they needed valves in a highly flammable area,” Ohren recalled. “They would normally need a hot work permit for a welder to come on-site. With press technology, they didn’t have to shut down or risk delays. That’s real time and cost savings.”

The valve also features one-tool compatibility, allowing contractors to use the same press tool for multiple sizes across the MegaPress line.

Viega Valves Are Tested to the Highest Standards

Every IPS Globe Valve undergoes rigorous internal testing, including leak testing, material checks and performance testing under pressure and temperature extremes.

The valves conform to:

  • MSS SP-25, SP-80 and SP-139
  • API-598 performance standards
  • NSF-61 and NSF-372 potable-water certifications (Model 5185.1)

These measures ensure long-term reliability in even the most demanding applications, providing confidence to engineers, contractors and facility managers.

Viega MegaPress® 316 Globe Valve
Designed for the People Who Keep Systems Running

When asked who this product serves best, Ohren emphasized three audiences:

“The primary group is facilities managers and building owners, who value reliability and product life,” he said. “Next are mechanical contractors, who look for quick installs and efficiency. And finally, specifying engineers, who care about the standards and approvals the valve meets.”

Across each group, the IPS Globe Valve delivers the same core advantages: precision, durability and speed.

Part of a Growing Portfolio

The IPS Globe Valve launched in April 2025 as part of Viega’s ongoing valve portfolio expansion. Looking ahead, Viega plans to broaden its valve offerings even further.

“We’re expanding into more hydronic applications,” Ohren said. “Up to now, our focus has been on potable water and gas, but you’ll see us adding more options across CTS, IPS and PEX connections.”

With the launch of the IPS Globe Valve, architects and installers have greater flexibility in the systems they design. The valve’s combination of precision control, stainless steel durability and MegaPress efficiency gives system designers and contractors a solution that performs under pressure.

From process facilities and cooling systems to commercial hydronics, the IPS Globe Valve sets a new benchmark for safe, fast and reliable flow regulation.
